Biggest political rally in Alaska's history

Recently Alaska saw the biggest political rally in its history - against the choice of Sarah Palin as a VP candidate.

And yet, she enjoys a 85% approval rating among all Alaskans, and 75% among Alaskan Democrats.

Sorry to fart during dinner...

Do they give you guys special Kool Aid or something? The 85% number is from prior to the announcement of the Troopergate investigation - April or May, at least. Her current number stands at 68% among all Alaskans (Source: Rasmussen, Sept 10) and it's dropping fast. I don't have poll numbers specific to Alaskan democrats but it's a pretty safe bet that those are old as well.

Well sure it's dropping fast. She's gotten the press corps, "full court press".

Have you examined "Troopergate"? I think what she did was fantastic. Problem cops (like the ones in Baltimore) should be off the force and if the directors won't do it, then they need to be replaced.

Make up your mind. Cops tasering and acting like asses is either good, or bad. And when their bosses support them, they either need to be shown the door, or left alone.

You can't have it both ways.

I mention only that Troopergate is affecting public sentiment in AK but since you asked...

Wooten's a bad dude, no question. But to use your office to interfere in due process by doing things like (allegedly) leaking confidential personnel file information is clearly an abuse of power, as well as illegal. Two wrongs don't make a right here, and lying about it ("I never pressured him to hire or fire anybody") makes it worse.

I support what she was trying to accomplish. She went about it poorly and possibly illegally. A bipartisan commission voted 12-0 to investigate exactly what happened. I think it's a minor issue, nationally speaking, in terms of her overall record - there's certainly a lot worse there - but it seems to be a very big deal in AK. It seems we will know more in Oct.

Interesting to note, though, that she provided a letter of reference that helped him get the gig in the first place.

Cops acting like asses is bad, and when it happens, due process needs to be observed. In the case of the MD cops, that would be a justice dept investigation - not just illegally firing everyone in sight, which can easily backfire when they sue for reinstatement. Get 'em gone the proper way and they stay gone... Wooten, BTW, is still an AK state trooper.

Palin keeps being touted as someone with experience. With what? Killing moose, and trying to censor books? She may be a decent person, but I shudder to think what kinds of things she would do if JM happens to pass.
