Canary Fighting
News from my hometown: law enforcement officials broke up a canary fighting ring in Shelton, CT (With help from police from my hometown of Fairfield). What the hell is wrong with people that are training canaries to fight?

A Historical View
I knew about the many breed hysterias that have faded in and out over the past few decades - Shepherds, Dobermans, Great Danes, Rottweilers and the like (including the current media fascination with Pit Bulls) - but did you know that 150 years ago it was Bloodhounds? The link is an overview of Karen Delise's book The Pit Bull Placebo, and at the bottom of the page you can download a free copy. I've been wanting to read it for quite some time, so this is great!

New York Outlaws Video Games
New York is tackling the tough issues, like outlawing playing video games while driving. Fortunately, you can still read the paper while ironing your underwear, putting on some makeup, and eating a McMuffin.
This is why this party is doomed.

If anyone has any information on this year's sponsors or speakers, kindly drop me a line. They seem to be keeping this year's festivities very very quiet.

26 people, 400 dogs in dogfight crackdown
The largest dogfighting bust in US history just happened, and most of the dogs are in care of the Humane Society of Missouri (not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States), which could use some help right now caring for them.
The big question now is: what will happen to the dogs? As victims of cruelty, I dearly hope that each will get a fair evaluation and a chance to live.

Pets Alive Blog

It's a good day to be a Pets Alive supporter: they took in a miracle dog who survived the gas chamber in AL and later gave birth to 10 healthy puppies along with all of the pups. It's extremely rare for a dog to survive a gassing and unheard of for that dog to then give birth to a large, healthy litter!
Please take a look at the work Pets Alive is doing as a true No Kill shelter and consider giving them your support!
On a side note... the fact that there are still shelters using gas chambers to kill animals is both horrifying and barbaric. This is a practice that must be stopped.
